A paradoxical question flitted thro my mind......
" is commiting suicide a courageous act or a cowardly one?"
this is a debatable issue and i dont think anyone can ever come to a sound conclusion
but im sure everyone agrees with me that this stupid act is on the rise ,especially amongst celebrities...
this reminds me of a famous dialogue in TITANIC
ROSE: i know what u must be thinking....poor little rich girl! what does she know abt misery....
JACK: no,thats not what i was thinking...i was thinking...what could have happenned to this girl to think that there was no other way out...

rose was saved by jack before she could hurl herself into the sea...good for her
but not everyone has their knight in shining armour waiting to save them from disastrous attempts of suicide. infact it is said that if the first attempt is thwarted succesfully,no one would go for the second attempt. is that because they realise the value of life,or are they just plain scared ???
whatever the reason might be, a suicidal tendency will never completely vanish....it will always be shimmering under the surface threatening to burst out at the slightest indication of trauma
i guess thats the reason for the cropping up of innumerable helplines and organisations who try helping these people to come out of their depressions
but are they trying hard enough?
clearly not, since in the last one month ,i came to know of four suicides....two of celebrities and the other two college students...have citizens of india suddenly taken a resolve to reduce the population? your concern is surely appreciated but the methodology adopted is downright foolish( hasnt anyone heard of family planning)
if im making a spoof of this matter, its only because im irritated with all these people...
i cannot direct my anger at them, hence im blogging

ENTERTAINER- THROUGH AND THROUGH
i felt like posting after a long time....and the credit goes to a movie.
when arindum ariyamalum released last year ,i kicked myself for not creating an oppurtunity to watch the movie at the theatre. i eventually did see it in a vcd,but i am that genre of moviegoers who just despise watching good films in small screen.so,i made a resolution that the next movie of vishnuvardhan's would be seen only in big screen;no more and no less.
So,here goes....this post is exclusively for the movie PATTIYAL.
top marks for the director...ok not so much as top, becos there were flaws ,but its gets unnoticed in the big picture
the simplicity of the scenes, but their sheer innovativeness grips you to the chair as much as the storyline does. there were atleast a dozen scenes which were not copied from old flicks, and this is a lot to admire since the essential story is just one of the many variations of ramgopal varma's productions like the superhit SATHYA or COMPANY.
the movie revolves around two gangsters selva and kosi, played by bharath and arya...well initially it was difficult to imagine bharath as anything other than a chocolate boy, especially not one who brandishes a knife and stabs people left and right without any qualms whatsoever.
but he has proved that he has lots and lots of potential which has just got to be tapped and filtered in the right direction. his voice is not at all heard in the movie, but his actions and facial expressions will be remembered and will surely take him a long way.kudos to his dance skills too....
coming to the other hero ....sigh!!!
i also belong to the long list of girls who drool at the sight of this tall, smouldering hunk...oh where are boys who look this handsome out there in chennai? come to think of it,i havent seen many...please u guys ,come out and show ur faces,we girls also like to sightadhichufy ;););)
ok after that little digression ill come back to the issue...right arya,is not just a pretty face
it has been proved in his films before and this is no exception.a gangster image suits him as much as a college goer does,if possible even more since it unearthes his multifaceted talents.
his voice is an undue advantage, cos it has got a newness to it....its not a very sexy one or anything, but its so unique that u keep wanting to hear it.
his snide remarks to his costar and to his lady have an underlying humour which takes the movie in a lighter vein. this guy should try for subtle comedy too.
coming to the ladies of the movie...they have cute characterisations
padmapriya as the shrill girl whos mad in love with arya...her expressions when he rebukes and shrugs her off are cute to watch. she is one pretty catch for the tamil industry.she might not be a conventional actress with a ....but who wants to watch the same run of the mill types who look like sticks with anorexia, and who drape themselves with minimal clothing ,with absolutely no individuality?? i think more people like padmapriya with natural beauty should enter the industry and create a revolution.they should redefine what a heroine shoud depict
pooja was good too; her sweet nature shone through and she was an apt pair for bharath
all in all,a good movie; i surely didnt regret losing my sleep over it.......................

HYPOCRASY and LIES

They both make me want to barf. i have done my best to steer clear of them and in the process i realised that its impossible to completely avoid them. at some point of the day, everyone becomes a hypocrite and start lying thro their teeth. it may be for just small matters but small leads to medium which leads to big and then huge.....sooner than u can comprehend you will become a compulsive liar.
the different reasons for lying amaze me.....the need to please people around you( a harsher word would be sucking up), the need to not hurt someone( u dont realise that most of the time they realise ur lying and end up feeling hurt anyway),to get out of sticky situations etc etc etc
there is a very thin line between lying and hypocrasy....for instance u can lie to a friend,if the situation really warrants it but being a hypocrite is the worst mark of friendship.its much better to be truthful and frank than to lie just to be on someones good side.
a person may get all the dishonest comments and undeserving praises from anyone but never from a close friend. then it totally damages the meaning of the word "close"

CERTAIN LOVE QUOTES I FELL IN LOVE WITH
  • What do you do if the one you have to live without, is the one your living for?
  • It hurts to love you but it hurts even more not to love you.
  • No boy is worth your tears...and the one that is would never make you cry
  • You have a girlfriend. Yet you flirt with me. You say you love her but not as much as you love me. I cry and you wonder why. I want more but all you want to be... Is friends
  • Walking away is`nt the hard part...it`s knowing that you won`t come runnin after me that hurts the most.
  • You kiss my lips, i close my eyes, away we float to paradise, all the people ,stop to see and softly whisper"they're meant to be..."
  • "If you're not the one for me, and I still think you're perfect, think of how amazing it will be to find the one who is."
  • "The space between what's wrong and right is where you'll find me hiding, waiting for you."
  • "You will love many times but only once you will fall in love."
  • He may not be the most attractive, he may not say all the right words, but when you see him, you know he's the one that can make you smile, laugh, and cry all at the same time."

love u.........

thats my adorable cousin sitting next to me. he is the reason why i love little boys. when i was young i used to kneel in front of my bed everyday praying to god for a cute little baby bro. 0ne,two,three,four and more years went by and i realised that god wasnt going to give me one.

i cried, raged and threw tantrums and still i was the only child. then i resorted to the only thing which gave me comfort.PRETENCE. i started playing with an imaginary kid( of course when no one was looking).

this doesnt make me deranged or anything...im perfectly normal , just as anyone with siblings or no siblings would ever be. infact it made me a better person because ,even though i was petted and cajoled and cuddled and what not by my entire family,i never knew what it was to be spoilt.

i think i was rewarded for this very quality of mine . very soon this lovely boy in the photo was born. (not to my parents ofcourse, but it made no difference to me)

he loves me as his own sister though he meets me quite rarely. when his eyes light up at the sight of me,i do sincerely believe that all my pretence,or shall i say penance paid off..........

i will always LOVE LITTLE BOYS.

GROW UP GIRLS....

Healthy competition is like a dose of energy.( i am not talking about peer pressure)
but im beginning to think there could never be anything healthy between certain species on earth called GIRLS. i am not gender biased( even if i am i should have been criticising boys....but im partial to them...im so fond of cute little boys...anyway why i like little boys will come in a later blog...let me come back to the current issue)
i have some reasons for believing that girls as a majority experience negative emotions like jealousy, ego, envy etc etc umpteen times more than boys. FRIENDSHIP seems to take a second hand when these emotions take over. bitching and back biting becomes the order of the day .
for boys, the actual joy of making new frens is more...they never forget their gang of friends and they are more aware of the important things in life.
spending time playing cricket, going to sathyam cinemas and snapping popcorn loudly, whistling for simran(or is it asin now?) , lounging in front of the tv aimlessly, boasting about their girlfriends, catching up with school friends.....whatever the boys do,they do it wholesomely with nothing else but friendship guiding them. its very difficult to explain why its different for girls....any little trivial matter can ruin a longstanding relationship
i may sound bitter ,but its true
if u r a girl, u will empathise with me.....if u r a boy,ask any girl around u,they will tell u the same.

things i like about my school

  • the warm atmosphere
  • the lovely teachers
  • our prayer
  • the small ganesh temple at the entrance
  • the basketball court and the hunks who dribble balls in it
  • the library....(its where i ultimately go to,if im troubled or depressed or extremely happy)
  • the slide and the jungle gym(from which i fell headlong)
  • the biotech lab and the teacher in it
  • tamil classes
  • my group of friends( kudos to you guys...kitty,indz,brudy and pushy) :)
  • JEKAIPPRPM( only the above mentioned will understand this jumble of letters...and ofcourse ramana who was clever enough to decipher it)
  • the general classes
  • vidhya dhwani and darpan
  • the little prefect badges , which is so flimsy enough to break into smithereens if u press it

Are men over 60 meant to be pitied? certainly not.
for one thing, they hate that.they like to think of themselves as still very active, both mentally and physically.(lo and behold, most of them are much more active than the teenagers of today!!)
so,why then do i pity them?whenever i see an old man,a grandpa figure walking down the road, its like a fist closing around my heart and clenching it tightly. i feel sorry for them, though they might be actually very healthy people who can jog around boat club 5 times a day....something which i cant even entertain in my thoughts.
maybe the pity is a sign of my love and respect for elders in general and my grandfathers in particular.both my grandfathers are fine, outstanding citizens who are the best role models for me. they are the best simply because they have never compromised for what they believe, they have never faltered in their tracks, they sweat and toil to acheive their goals and in performing all this and more, they have never forgotten to be a grandparent for me. the love they shower me and the confidence they have in me spurs me on.
i was always emotional as a kid. a slight injury to someone would bring tears to my eyes.
once i burst a balloon just seconds after my grandad bought it for me. i cried the whole day because i felt sorry for him.( i didnt cry for the balloon but for the man who gave it to me).
even though i don cry for small things now,my emotions have been directed to other things like feeling a rush of love for all men old enough to be my grandpas. thats why when all my classmates make fun of a professor who is old ,i feel an extreme distaste toward them.
maybe im a highly strung person....but this distaste is what made me blog in the first place and im glad that i didnt take any names.

Its pongal today!!!its a big day for the uzhavargal(translated in english as farmers).go to any village, and ull experience the enormity of this festival. sitting in a city like chennai, pongal is all but reduced to tv watching.
whats common between movies like kaadhal kondein, villain etc and maatu pongal? maybe ajit can be compared to a maadu,(not the ajit with his new slim looks),but this theory cannot even remotely apply to dhanush.
jokes aside,my question is what are these tv channels doing to indian festivals? they are doing a lot to glorify cinema(thanks a lot to sun, jaya and all the others) no doubt, but they have reduced occasions like pongal to nothing more than "fun with the idiot box". now difference between a diwali and pongal is, on pongal dhool was telecasted while on diwali thirumalai would be.
you cant blame the satellite network for this, all they do is stick to their job,or otherwise they woudnt survive in the cutthroat competition betw channels. no use imparting blame onto the film industry cos this is the only way they get tremendous publicity.
so whom can u blame? keep thinking about this, while i have to go.its 11.30 and time to watch kushi. ;)

Do u know a place where all the worlds nerds,show-offs,back-biters and gossipmongers secretly meet and have fun? i bet u dont. the name of the place starts with a 'A' ands with 'Y'. its where everyone gets in thro a crude system by which they supposedly filter out the so called non elites. the mad rush to get into this society almost (as i repeat only almost) parallels the tension faced by rajnikant fans to get tickets for chandramukhi( atleast chandramukhi was worth all the efforts). in the celluloid world this madness repeats itself for every super star movie but in case of the society im talking about, its a continuous madness which will never cease.
people should atleast go by word of mouth. but no,everyone wants to experience this . while some get out of this without a single scratch, some get scarred for life.
by the way did i tell u guys that im part of the madness? i hope to be among the ones leaving the society unblemished since im not a nerd or showoff or backbiter or gossipmonger.its a tough life!!!

this is dedicated to the maestro's son.....noneother then the one and only yuvan:
man, his steady rise to stardom from poovellam kaetuppar to the now pudhupettai is awesome man. none of his songs are substandard though some are obviously fantabulous.( i mean fantastic+fabulous).the latest song eno kangal from kalvanin kaadhali just about proves it.
all composers share a special bond with some directors.yuvan is no exception and he shares excellent rapport with selvaraghavan....those of u who dont agree with me...u so havent listened to pudhupettai, have u?
though some of his songs are so obviosly inspired by his fathers tracks and some bands like the corrs they still cannot afford to be overlooked. nobody can blame a guy for copying stuff wen the product is so awesome. ilayaraja's progeny is here to stay and go very high places.....a hip hip hooray for the worthy successor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
